I am a retired high school teacher turned potter. As a former biology and earth science teacher I am curious about the place I live and how I can capture it on my pottery. My surface designs reflect my love for the outdoors; themes include imagery of marine life, fresh water ecosystems, and the local landscape. I create functional pots for everyday use. I use earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain in an electric kiln. Another pursuit is alternative firing non-functional decorative pieces. In this process I specialize in barrel and raku kiln firings using aluminum foil and ceramic saggars filled with local wood shavings and local seaweed.
